We have a crisis at our southern border and it seems the Trump administration has to solve it alone.
The Democrats would rather play politics than help find solutions, even though they knew the situation is untenable.
Mexico as well has made many promises to help stop the flow of migrants but they have fallen short on the follow through.
So today Trump got tough and fired off a shot across the bow of Mexico and the Democrats. From The Hill:
President Trump on Friday threatened to close the Mexican border or parts of it next week, writing in a series of tweets that unless Mexico’s government immediately stopped illegal crossings he would take the action.
The tweets come amid growing warnings from the administration about a crisis at the border, and more than a month after the end of a partial government shutdown triggered by a fight over Trump’s demands for funding for a border wall.
Trump blamed both Democrats in Congress and Mexico for the problems, accusing Mexico of making “a fortune” from the U.S. that is greater than its costs of protecting the border.
He said Democrats were responsible for giving the U.S. weak immigration laws.
Trump tweeted out:
“The DEMOCRATS have given us the weakest immigration laws anywhere in the World. Mexico has the strongest, & they make more than $100 Billion a year on the U.S. Therefore, CONGRESS MUST CHANGE OUR WEAK IMMIGRATION LAWS NOW, & Mexico must stop illegals from entering the U.S….
….through their country and our Southern Border. Mexico has for many years made a fortune off of the U.S., far greater than Border Costs. If Mexico doesn’t immediately stop ALL illegal immigration coming into the United States throug our Southern Border, I will be CLOSING…..
….the Border, or large sections of the Border, next week. This would be so easy for Mexico to do, but they just take our money and “talk.” Besides, we lose so much money with them, especially when you add in drug trafficking etc.), that the Border closing would be a good thing!”
